Fox Terrier-Den Dogs-I would like to know if the white, wire-haired fox terrier or any other terrier can go into the den of a skunk, fox or badger. Also, what dog would be most useful on the trap line in the heavy timbered section of Canada and Alaska?
Terriers are not small enough to go into skunk dens unless the passage is larger than the ordinary, but if trained for such work will go into fox and badger dens. To the real trapper of the timbered districts of Canada the hunting dog, no matter what kind, so of very little use. Dogs are used occasionally for beavers but these dogs are rear. The only dogs that are very useful to the northern trapper are the sleigh dogs.
