Foxes-Running in Circle-At what time of the year do foxes run in a circle when chased by dogs?
At all times, I think, anyway they will run in circles at any time during the winter and spring. As a rule, a fox circles immediately, on being jumped, but after making one or two rounds, he goes off a half mile, or more, and circles again. Sometimes he runs several miles before he circles, but he is almost sure to come back to, or near, the same place before the chase is ended, and he will stop and circle when pressed too hard, as that is the way he throws the dog off the trail, and gains a start.
