Fly Casting-Weight of Rod-What is the best weight of rod for fly casting, and the best length to use here where there is much brush?
The proper weight and length of rod for fly fishing depends partly on the man who uses it, but mainly on the kind of rod (wood or bamboo) and on the nature of the water and size of fish. For your western mountain streams I think the proper thing is a split bamboo of 9 or 10 feet, weight 6 ½ or 7 ounces, and rather stiff. This is a heavier rod than I would ever recommend for eastern waters, or for lake fishing.
