You should place the small pieces of fish in a wide-mouthed bottle, that has a perfectly even top, and should cover it with a tin cover, which will keep the flies from it and prevent the rain from entering, yet allows the gas to escape from the bottle. A tin salve box turned upside down over the bottle is all right. Maggots, you know, are the larvae of the blue bottle-fly. If you cork the bottle tightly enough to keep them from depositing these larvae the bottle will burst.
