My story is about my first turkey hunt. It was on opening day of the 2006 Jersey County Illinois youth hunt. We both got up at 4:00am and were in the woods by 5:15am. We waited till we heard our first bird gobble then started calling. There were birds gobble'n at us but we hadn't seen one yet. Around 6:30 we had two mature gobblers and a jake come from our left and five hens from our right.
My heart was pounding. The biggest tom was roughly 35 yards away. I shouldered my Browning B-80, gave out a putt on my mouth call, and squeezed the trigger. Before I knew what happened my cousin and I were screaming and jumping up and down over a 24 and a 1/2 pound gobbler with an 11" beard. That is the story of my first turkey.
