FOR COYOTES—What gun would you advise getting for coyotes at 300 yards? An accurate and reliable arm of lever action or automatic is what I want.
Now I don’t like to recommend any particular rifle for your use, for while I could name a number of good ones for your purpose, the one I would recommend might not suit you at all. There are many things to be considered, things that you did not mention at all, and this is invariably the way. I presume that you hunt on horseback and want a rifle to be carried in a scabbard. A .25-35 or .30-30 carbine of either of the leading makes will be all right, and if you want an automatic I can recommend the Remington Auto- loader of those calibers, though it is not as desirable for a saddle gun because of its greater length and weight. The new Stevens “High Power” is another fine arm with what appears to be an exceptionally fine mechanism, and using the same cartridges as the Remington. But for a saddle gun for coyote shooting a .30-30 Winchester or Marlin will probably be as good as anything you can get.
