EXTREME DROP OF STOCK—Would a shotgun with a drop of 2 1/4 inches at the comb and 4 3/4 inches at the heel, length 15 inches, be too extreme? Would this gun in 20 gauge give better satisfaction than a 12 gauge?
You know better than I do what kind of a gun you require, but I am sure that you could not use a gun with such an extreme drop and length of stock. Try the guns of your friends and see which seems to fit you best and you can learn a lot about it in that way.
The dimensions of the stock of a standard double gun are about 14 or 14 1/4 inches from center of front trigger to center of butt plate; drop at comb 1 5/8 inches, at heel 2 3/4 inches. The 20 gauge gun is generally well liked for upland shooting, but for ducks the 12 gauge is the one most used.
