THE EMERGENCY MATCH SUPPLY
By “PUG” Moes
While on a canoe trip down the Wisconsin River from State Line, Midi., to Stevens Point, Wis., I came upon a hunting camp near a spring. I stopped to get a drink, and noticed some empty shotgun shells lying about. I picked up some, trying to get two that would fit tightly, to be used as a waterproof match box. I had a bottle full of matches in my pocket, but was afraid of its breaking. A member of the hunting party from Madison was watching me and said. “Here is my waterproof match box.” It was one of those little metal boxes that had contained Gillette safety razor blades. The box was filled with matches and then sealed with paraffin, making it water tight. It is very small, light in weight and quickly opened when needed. This is to be used only in case of emergency, of course. I think this little article should be in the pocket of every outer, and sometimes may save a life.
