Ejector rods are found in both revolvers and shotguns. In shotguns the ejector rod is linked to the ejectors and is activated by breaking the action open. In revolvers the ejector is activated by pushing down on the ejector rod pushing the cases free of the cylinder, in a top break action the ejector rod is activated much the same way as a shotgun and is automatic.
