Ejection refers to the act of removing a spent or loaded shell or round from a firearm chamber. While most firearms have ejectors some only have extractors which are designed to pull the round slightly out of the chamber and allow the case to be pulled out by hand. Some shotguns have selective ejectors and will eject only the spent round.
