When skinning a deer, it is often hard to hold the hide when pulling it off. I use a rope with a T handle made from 3/4" round dowel 6" long at one end and a slip loop at the other. The rope should be about 12" long after the knots are tied. A golf ball is used for anchor. Once you get the hide started off, put the ball on the hair side of the hide and wrap the hide around the ball. Place the loop over the hide around the ball and snug up. You now have a handle to pull the hide down with. Loops can be substituted for the handle for larger game so that you can step into it and use your body weight to pull the hide down.
