DUTY ON GUNS—Would a person going from the United States into Canada have to pay duty on guns and how much?
If you go there as a settler you will have to pay duty on your goods unless you have new stuff. If you have a new gun and cannot make the customs officers believe that you are a bona-fide settler and want the gun for your own use, you have to pay a duty, approximately one-third of the declared value of the gun. If you can learn for sure that there is a customs office at the place you are going to, have the officer bond your baggage and you can settle for it more satisfactorily after you get there and have plenty of time.
