DUTY ON CAMP OUTFIT—Is there any duty on traps and guns shipped into Canada; if so, how much do you think it would be on sixty or seventy traps, a couple of rifles, a tent, and a camping outfit?
Yes, there is a duty on all such goods, amounting to approximately one-third of its value. Your own valuation is accepted if within reason. Goods that have been in use six months are supposed to be duty free, but for all of that if you can get any old goods of this nature into Canada without paying duty on it, even though you have had it for years, you will be lucky. You will do better by taking the goods with you, as baggage.
