Dry Mange-Could someone tell me what this is on my dog, and how to cure it. She is a pedigreed black and tan. There is one spot on each front leg, and one up on her throat; also at the foot of the ears. It does not spread. It looks like the mange, but it is purple and is very rough and scabby. I have been putting Creoline on it but it does not take any effect.
This is a form of mange, usually called dry mange. The cause is a microbe burying under the skin in clusters, the hair falls out and scabs form on those places. In the usual form of mange, called Sarcoptic Mange, the microbe tunnels under the skin similar to ringworm and that is what causes the intense itching and consequent scratching. Both forms yield readily to Baberlein’s Mange Cure and affect a cure within a few days; new hair starts on bare patches within a week by its use.
