Don't Stop Hunting, Until the Hunt is Over | |
|
I am a male, 30-yr. old. I live in Illinois. I shot my first whitetail deer today. This is my second year hunting. I won’t make this story too long. I got up in my stand at 5:45am and I shot at my first deer at 6:20am. I am a bowhunter and I have been shooting bows for a long time but never at something living. People talk about "Buckfever". It’s true, even when it’s not a buck and just a yearling doe. I shot her at her the first time. I missed her. She ran. Then 20 minutes later she came back at the same spot. I shot at her again and missed. This time she jumped and stayed there. I nocked another arrow in and shot the 3rd time and I hit her in the spine. The point of my story is this. Whatever age, whatever skill level, however nervous you are up in that stand with a deer 10 yards away in the silence of it all with your knees shaking and heart pounding, take a deep breath, draw back your bow, look through your peep sight and shoot. Even if you miss 2 times, don’t give up, ever. Remember the old saying: you have to be at the right place at the right time. Never get discouraged, believe me, it pays off. It did for me.
