Dog-Running Rabbits-Breaking From-How would you train a young hound to keep him from hunting rabbits when coon hunting?
The following method may sound foolish to you but it is effective nevertheless: Take your gun and dog out in daylight and let him chase a rabbit. Shoot the rabbit, then catch your dog and taking the dead rabbit by the hind legs, give the dog a good thrashing with it. Don’t say a word to the dog. Then throw the rabbit down in front of him and let him look it over, then repeat the thrashing, striking him over the head with it. If he chases rabbits again, do the same thing and he will soon learn to despise a rabbit. Once he has learned to hunt coons, and learns that rabbits are not to be chases you will have no more troubles.
