Staying at Tree-I have a good dog on fox and wildcat, that is, he runs them good but when he trees a wildcat he will not stay by the tree. He will run them to the tree then go right back. If you start one and he runs it, he will be back in about one hour sometimes less. How can I break him so he will stay by the tree? He is about two years and four months old. I never trained him on anything only rabbits, fox and cat, he runs on his own hook since he was four months old. That was the age the first fox was killed ahead of him, run it himself.
The reason your dog does not remain longer with the game treed is that he is left alone and no one to encourage him and also get in possession what he has brought to bay. If another dog or two were to go out with him, they would, doubtless, remain longer but, ultimately, also give up and go home because of lack of interest on part of owner.
