DENS USED VS. UNUSED

DENS USED VS. UNUSED—Please tell a good way to tell skunk dens from those which are not used, or are occupied by woodchucks.

There should be no trouble in telling whether a den is used. Unused dens usually have leaves in the entrance and the ground looks old and moldy. If occupied by skunks there will be sharp claw marks and as a rule one can find black and white hairs about the entrance. Often you will find the droppings nearby.
