The Development of the Modern Gun
Since the last and most improved crossbows had, as we have seen in Chapter I, a lock, which means the trigger mechanism, a gunstock and a barrel, it required small inventive ability to add these features to the Chinese gun. To put on a trigger to fire the gun seemed to be the hardest part of the early gunsmith's job and it was the most necessary, but all these things and other inventions were worked out step by step as we shall see forthwith.
