DEER AND BEAR RIFLE—Can you tell me whether the .20-20 Winchester or Marlin are good rifles for deer or bear?
I have seen deer shot through the paunch with the .25-20 and run for miles only to he found after it was no good. I saw a bear that was shot three times in the lungs with one and then would have gotten away if a .38-55 had not finished him. For deer or bear get a .32 Special, .32-40, .38-55 or larger. The .25-20 makes too small a hole and hasn’t got the shocking power and for long range they are no good. I use a .38-55 Winchester soft point bullet, and never lost a deer yet after being hit.
