CHILBLAINS-Is there any cure for chilblains? If not, what will relieve them?
The following treatment is pre scribed by one of the leading physicians of Columbus. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” and it is well to remember that chilblains are caused principally by frostbite which causes sluggish circulation of blood in the feet. The circulation therefore should be accelerated by wearing loose foot covering and no garters, and also by bathing and rubbing the feet and legs. If the skin is broken the part should be dusted with boracic acid or some other simple antiseptic powder, until healed. After this, before going to bed at night, soak the feet well for three successive nights in hot water to which bas been added one tablespoonful of salt to each quart of water. Soak well and dry thoroughly, then apply either one of the following ointments: First—menthol 15 grains, ichthyol 1/2 ounce, lanoline (sheep fat) 1/2 ounce, Vaseline 3 ounces.
