Leade refers to the portion of the chamber immediately in front of the chamber which is slightly oversize and is free of rifling. The chamber leade allows the bullet which is overbore size to slide into the chamber without contacting the rifling and ensuring easy chambering. Each manufacturer produces barrels with differing degrees of leade, which is often referred to as free bore.
