A chamber cast is the best method in which to get precise chamber dimensions. A low melting point solid such as Cerrosafe is melted and then poured through the breach into the chamber and throat of the barrel, coming in contact with a plug that has been placed in the barrel. Once solidified, it is then driven out with a tight fitting dowel or cleaning rod. Once removed the cast is a perfect representation of the chamber.

Chamber casts are useful for reloaders attempting to get the most accuracy possible from a particular firearm and when dealing with antique firearms in determining the exact chambering.
