Central Texas – Will some H-T-T reader describe the climate and game of Texas?
I live in Central Texas, from east to west, three counties south of the north line of the state and east of the Panhandle. This is a warm climate. The snowfall is from one inch to three inches deep and melts in from one to three days. It does not snow every winter. The “northers” are the most disagreeable weather we have in winter. The summers are very hot. This is a high, dry country. We no live streams in this settlement and they run when it rains. For fur-bearers we have coyote, skunk, mink, raccoon, ringtail, possum, civet cats and weasel. For game we have deer, quail, squirrel, rabbits, both jack and cottontails, and a few wild turkeys. It is from 30 to 45 miles to a railroad east, west, north or south. There are plenty of inland towns where you can buy most anything you need. There is no government land in Texas.
