CENTRAL CANADA — How much money eau a trapper, who is unacquainted with the trapping make in a winter?
Trappers of that part of Canada, who devote all their time in season, to trapping, make from $150 to $1,000, or more per season. There are very few who make the maximum sum, while there are many who only make $150 or $200 in a season. It depends mainly on the amount of energy expended, but knowledge of the ground, and of the habits of the animals sought, combined with good luck, or at least a total absence of bad luck, are necessary for a large catch. An experienced trapper, if he is fortunate to locate on a good ground and if a hustler, should clear a couple of hundred dollars the first season. All other things being equal the second year, his added knowledge should enable him to double this amount. It is out of the question to give a more definite answer than this, for practically everything depends on circumstances.
