Casting Rod-Bait-Would an 8 ½ foot bait casting rod be all right for fly casting? What weight sinker should be used for fly casting? Is a nine-ounce rod heavy enough for bass and pickerel?
A bait casting rod of any length or weight is too heavy and stiff for fly casting. A fly rod should be long and quite light. No sinker is used for fly casting, the weight of the line being sufficient to draw it out if the rod is handled rightly. Yes, you can use a lighter rod than nine ounces for bass and pickerel.
