A rimless case is a case in which the head diameter is the same as the case body immediately in front of the extractor groove. In a rimless case the extractor groove allows the cartridge to be pulled from the chamber. Headspace is controlled by the distance between head and case shoulder in a rimless case, most of the recent cartridges developed recently are rimless cases.
