Canker of Ear-I have a dog which is affected with internal canker ear. Do you know of any remedy for it?
One authority gives the following as a certain cure: Wash the ear thoroughly with warm water to which a little laudanum has been added. Dry it thoroughly and then apply a preparation composed of Goulard’s extract of lead, 1 oz.; laudanum, 1 oz.; fluid extract of witch hazel, 1 oz.; water 2 oz. Pour a teaspoonful of preparation into the ear once each day. Leave it in the ear only one or two minutes, then let the surplus drain out. Hold the dog’s head at least ten minutes afterwards to prevent him shaking it, or what is better, fasten on a hood or canker cap which will cover both ears and thus prevent him from injuring the ear from violently shaking the head.
To cure a dog of internal canker of the ear, wash the ear thoroughly with warm water; dry it and then warm a teaspoonful of glycerin; drop this into the ear each evening until cured. I have used this on my own dog and it cured him in twenty-four hours.
