Canker in the Ears-What is the ailment of my hound? He had catarrh this winter and now one ear is covered n the underside and in the internal ear with tiny sores. It is raw and has some discharge. It seems to itch as he shakes his head and holds it slightly to one side. He howls when he scratches it, as it hurts. His nose and eyes do not run now. The other ear is all right and he is in good health otherwise. How may he be cured?
This is a plain case of canker of the ears. Having had catarrh had nothing to do with it-it is an ailment that older dogs are much troubled with and is caused by inflammation in the ear chambers arising from hardening of ear was, dirt collecting in them, and may also be transmitted by getting in contact with dogs so afflicted. Haberlein’s Canker Remedy will relieve at first application and affect a cure in course of a week or ten days. The usual home remedies do not reach the spot or have proper healing qualities, may allay the pain temporarily and thus merely prolong the affliction. The usual symptoms are as follows, but not all of them appear at same time in any one case: Continuous shaking of the head; scratching at ears with paw; rubbing afflicted ear against side of kennel; general restlessness, whining, howling and evincing pain; a dark looking waxy substance may be discovered in ears and if case is of long standing very offensive odor emits.
