A basic rule that I adhere to is that one should never venture into the woods without a sidearm and a stout knife.

To keep this rule, I purchased a western style gun belt big enough to fit over any winter clothing and coat but small enough to fit snug in the summertime. I have modified it to carry my hunting knife in a sheath right up against the holster. Depending on which is necessary, the knife or the gun naturally find the palm of my hand!

Not all States have the same regulations for the open carry of firearms nor for the carrying or use of certain firearms during hunting season -- be sure to outfit yourself according to your own State's laws!
