Coyote hunting requires the ability to draw the animal in for a close shot. Predator calls are by far the best way to draw animals in from long distances. There are two general types of calls used for coyote hunting: electronic and hand held.
Electronic calls have really increased in popularity in recent years, due in part to the advancements made in electronic sound storage. The tape players your dad used to call predators with have largely been replaced by CD and recently mp3 or digital style callers. These new callers offer the hunter increased sound quality while reducing size and weight. When looking for a new electronic call, keep in mind that not all allow you to change the sounds stored in the unit, look for one that allows you to change sounds easily, is portable and offers decent battery life.
Mouth/Hand Held Calls
Mouth and hand held calls are by far the best method for calling in predators. While an electronic call only has one recording of each sound, hand held mouth calls allow the hunter to adjust the calling sequence for optimum predator attraction. The only draw back to hand held calls it they do take some practice to master.
