Fire forming a case is the process by which an undersized case will take on the chamber dimensions when it is fired. Fire forming is most useful to the handloader who is working with wildcat cartridges or rounds in which factory formed brass is not available. An example of fire forming is when a resized and re-necked 223 is fire formed into a 7mm TCU, removing the body taper and changing the neck angle of the parent round.
