CABIN BUILDING—How would one et material for building a cabin in a wild or mountainous country where there are no railroad stations or towns within 40 or 50 miles of the location? How would you build a cabin in a cold country? Can one build a cabin and cut firewood for his own use on government land?
You can get all of the material needed on the spot if it is in a timbered country. My way of building cabins was given in “Camp & Trail Methods:’ last summer and could not be given here in this department. A good method of building cabins is also given in “Land Cruising and Prospecting.’ Yes, one may build cabins on government land but should not cut valuable timber. On state laud it is unlawful to cut green trees under a certain size, the laws varying in the different states.
