British Columbia Information-In what district of British Columbia are marten most plentiful? What other furbearers and game are found there? When travelling on foot, must one carry a tent or is there sufficient timber for building shelters? What provisions would you advise two men to take for a four-months’ trip? In what state of settlement is the country? What clothing should be worn?
Martens are found in greatest numbers in the Caribou and Cassiar districts. There are scarcely any settlements in those districts. Other furbearers are bears of various kinds (including grizzly), lynx, otter, mink, wolverine, ermine, wolves, fisher, and beaver, the latter protected. The game is moose, caribou, deer, goats, sheep, grouse, ptarmigan and rabbits. The country is heavily timbered, except the high mountain peaks, and in the trapping territory one would have no difficulty finding building material.
