Herring, Branch (Alewife, Allwife, Ellwife, Ellwhoop, Big-eyed Herring, Wall-eyed Herring, Gaspereau, Gasper&t, Sprat, Whitebait, etc.): Caught on the artificial fly in the spring, in salt rivers of the Atlantic coast, and also in Lake Ontario and the large lakes of New York. Is common in the Albemarle, Connecticut, and Potomac Rivers, and off the coasts of Maine and Massachusetts.
