BOX TRAPS—Is the box trap described in Steel Traps good for catching mink and skunks? Where should such a trap be set along a stream to catch mink? Could you catch groundhogs in this trap?
There is no box trap described in our book Steel Traps but Dead- falls & Snares describes one and Fur Farming describes several and tells how to use them. Mink and skunks may be caught in box traps as well as with steel traps. For mink the trap may be set almost anywhere along a stream, but are best near some drift on a fairly straight stretch of water, as the mink keeps close to the water where the stream is straight, but may cut the corners on a crooked stream. I have never heard of catching groundhogs in box traps.
