Bonito
Bonito (Skipjack, Spanish Mackerel, etc.): Caught on bluefish bait and tackle on the surface of deep waters in the open ocean. Occurs on the Atlantic coast in the summer between Cape May and Cape Sable; off Cape Hatteras, off Block Island, off Long Island, the mouth of the Chesapeake, and in the Gulf of Mexico. Weighs up to ten pounds. Two species called Bonito are common on the Pacific coast—one closely related to that of the Atlantic, and another known as the Oceanic Bonito, which see.
