Boat-Hunting and Fishing-What are the proper dimensions for a hunting and fishing boat, and what kind of wood should be used? What should I put in the cracks? Was such a boat ever described in the H-T-T?
A flat-bottom boat with sloping ends was described by A.F. Wallace in the May, 1910, number. A rowboat was described in the September, 1909, number. We are out of these issues, but the rowboat is fully described, with plain directions for tis construction, in “Camp and Trail Methods”. For one or two men the boat should be about three feet wide and fourteen feet long. Use good pine lumber. Fill the cracks with oakum, saturated in white lead. Smear white lead in all the cracks after caulking with the oakum. We have a book-The Cabin Boat Primer-which tells how to make various boats for just the purpose you mention.
