Black vs. Smokeless Powder | |
|
Black vs. Smokeless Powder-Which is the best powder to use in the .22 Winchester single shot rifle-black or smokeless? Which gives best results and which is most injurious to the barrel?
The Ideal Handbook recommends wither of these powders: FFG Black Powder, 13 grains; Kings Semi-Smokeless, 10 grains; Duponts No. 1, 5 grains. These are all supposed to be about equal in power, using the weights given but undoubtedly the Du Pont smokeless would be most satisfactory because of its greater cleanliness and absence of smoke. Any kind of powder is injurious to the barrel if the gun is allowed to remain dirty for some time, but if kept clean it will never be injured by the powder, no matter what kind is used.
