Black Bass-Bait to Use-There is a pond in my neighborhood containing black bass of from one to seven pounds weight. The water is ten feet deep in the middle. What kind of bait would you advise me to use?
You will not catch fish in the deep water, but will find them along the edge of the grass or among it; among the lily pads; near old logs and stumps, and other places near shore. I wouldn’t advise you to use any one way of fishing alone, or any one bait, but whatever you choose, do use some sportsmanlike way of getting your fish; if you wan tto still fish, go and fish for bullheads and carp, but the black bass has so much fight in him that it is a shame to take him in any that does not give him a fighting chance. You might try live minnow and frog casting; for these are very productive and large mouth bass take a frog very well. You can also use a revolving spoon bait, which is very successful if rightly used. Then there are very many artificial minnows and “plug baits” that are excellent if you can use them. For these heavier baits you must have one of the short bait-casting rods.
