Big Game Rifles-Which of the Savage rifles is best for bear, deer and moose-the .30-30, .303 or .38-55. What is the weight of the new Springfield rifle? Is it a single shot or repeater? Is it good for bear or moose?
I consider the .303 the best of the Savage rifles for all big game. The weight of the new Springfield rifle is a trifle over eight and one half pounds. It is a six-shot repeater, five cartridges being held in the magazine, bolt action, and is strictly a military arm. The model ’03 is a good big game cartridge, but the latest model, ’06, is only loaded with the sharp pointed metal cased bullet and is useless as a hunting cartridge. The guns can only be procured by members of the National Rifle Association.
