Big Game Rifle-Am contemplating a big game hunt in the Rockies and would like your opinion on which is the best rifle: the .38-55 Savage 26-inch barrel, the .401 Winchester self-loading rifle, or the Remington Auto loading .35? Will the Savage 20 inch barrel jump more than the 26 inch? Does the .401 jump too?
Each rifle that you name has its individual features which appeal to individual hunters. Some think there is no cartridge like the .25-35; Fred Jones wouldn’t use anything but a .35 Remington Automatic; Will Light swears by his .35 Winchester, self-loading. All of us hunt deer. Sometimes one, sometimes the other has the brag. The .401 is a heavy charge and the lighter the weapon the more the jump or kick charge for charge. The 20-inch barrel is lighter than the 26-inch, so it springs more.
