Best rattling technique:
Drill a 1/4" hole through the base of 5 sheds and run a rope through each hole of the sheds. The length of the rope should be 3 ft longer than the height of you stand. Tie the rope off at hand height to a branch of your tree.
From your treestand, bounce the rope up and down letting the sheds clink together and rustle the leaves on the ground. You can let them bang the base of your tree also. This simulates a real sparring match. Dominant bucks can not resist other bucks in their territory and come in hot. I've also rattled in coyotes on a few occasions. So...good luck and be ready...
