BARREL TRAP—How is the cover fixed on a barrel trap which is sunk in the ground and used for skunks and rabbits? What kind of traps are best suited for catching jack rabbits?
There are several ways of arranging the cover on a barrel trap. One of the best is to fasten the cover by driving two nails through the edge of the barrel into the edge of the cover at just the right place to give an even weight on each side of the pivot and so that the cover can tilt either way. Hang a weight on the under, side, fastening it by a forked string attached to the cover at two points, each the same distance from the center and on opposite sides of the points of support. This will bring the cover back to a horizontal position, no matter which way it has been tilted. I have never heard of anybody trapping jackrabbits.
