A Barrel Lug is found on heavy recoiling rifles to help dissipate the recoil throughout the stock eliminating the possibility of spitting the stock. The barrel lug adds rigidity to the barreled action and aids in accuracy. The barrel lug in a quality rifle will be milled into the barrel steel itself, instead of being merely soldered onto the underside of the barrel.
