Much like the chamber adapter, the barrel insert allows a different caliber or gauge to be fired in a firearm other than its original chambering. The barrel insert unlike the chamber adapter consists of a new chamber and barrel that are inserted into the existing firearm. For instance a 12 gauge shotgun can be made to fire a 20 gauge round or even a 30/30 Winchester.
