Balanced Charge for 16 Gauge | |
|
Well-Balanced Charge-I shoot a 16 gauge Winchester shotgun and would like to know whether 2 ¾ drams of smokeless powder and one ounce of shot would be too heavy a charge, and would such a combination make a well balanced load?
It would depend entirely on what grade of smokeless, loading bulk for bulk with black powder, 2 ¾ drams is not too much, but 2 ½ dram loads are more common. A load of 2 ¾ drams of bulk smokeless and 1 ounce of shot is a well-balanced charge. Chilled shot should be used.
