Hundgun Hunting Autoloading/Automatic Handguns | |
|
Just about any autoloading handgun can be used for hunting, it all depends on the caliber and the game animal being pursued.
Smaller calibers ranging from the 22 long rifle up to the 40 S+W and 45 ACP should only be used for small game and pest control. Larger more powerful calibers such as the 10 mm and 44 Automag are suitable for game up to and including deer.
One drawback that autoloaders have is that they tend to be fairly inacurate when compared to revolvers and single shot pistols. If your autoloader is accurate 100 yard shots are possible.
Another negative of the autoloader for hunting is the fact that the cartridges they are designed to handle generally lack enough power. Some notable exceptions are the Desert Eagle by IMI which is chambered in such heavy weights as the 44 Magnum and 50 Action Express. The Wildey and Automag line of handguns would also make excellent hunting handguns.
As long as your autoloader is in a powerful cartridge and provides good accuracy it can be used for hunting. Remember to match the cartridge to the game being hunted and check all laws, some states limit the number of cartridges a hunting firearm can hold.
