AUXILIARY BARRELS—Can you tell me something regarding the auxiliary rifle barrel? Will it do very fine shooting when used as a single-barrel shotgun? What sights are the best to use with it?
As far as I know, auxiliary barrels are no longer manufactured, but it is probable that they still could be procured from dealers an second-hand arms. It is out of the question to do very fine shooting with one of these barrels, but they will be found sufficiently accurate for ordinary hunting purposes. The full length kind, held firmly in the gun by means of a nut at the muzzle are most satisfactory. In a double gun open rifle sights may be mounted on the rib, but it would be difficult to put sights on a single- barrel gun as one would not dare cut slots in the barrel.
