Tree Stand Safety – Attaching Pull Rope to Firearm
Every where you look on the topic of tree stand safety, they tell you to use a rope to get your firearm up to you after you are comfortably into your tree stand, but where do you attach the rope?
I have a simple method of safely hoisting my rifle up to my stand, ensuring that it won’t get clogged with mud or snow. First I unload my rifle and remove the magazine, if the magazine can’t be removed, I drop the floor plate and leave it open. I then put my hoist rope through the open action and clip it to itself. Then make a loop about a 16 inches above the action and slide the loop over the end of the barrel, this second loop being farther out on the barrel ensures that the muzzle is pointed upward when tension is on the rope, eliminating the possibility that snow or mud can enter the muzzle.
